ALGIERS- President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune chaired Thursday, in Algiers, a High Security Council meeting, the presidency of the Republic said in a statement.

Before the opening of the meeting, held at the presidency of the Republic, "Tebboune invited the participants to observe a minute of silence in memory of the late Mujaheed Lieutenant General Ahmed Gaid Salah and in tribute to his great sacrifices and his devotion to the country's service," the statement said.

The High Security Council started its works "by greeting the large number of people that accompanied the deceased to his final lasting place, a picture that has stunned the world and showed synergy between the valiant Algerian and their People's National Army, the guarantor of the Constitution and the institutions of the Republic."

In addition, the High Security Council "discussed the situation in the region, especially along the border with Libya and Mali," the statement said.

The High Security Council "has taken a series of measures for the protection of our borders and our national territory and for giving a fresh impetus to Algeria's role at the international level, especially in relation to the two issues," the presidency's statement said.

The participants in the meeting also tackled the latest development in the Sahel, the Sahara region and Africa.

The president of the Republic has decided to convene a meeting of the High Security Council periodically and whenever necessary.

ALGIERS-President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune on Monday declared a three-day national mourning following the death of Lieutenant General, Ahmed Gaïd Salah, Deputy Minister for National Defence, Chief of Staff of the People's National Army (APN), announced the Presidency of the Republic.

"Following the death of mujaheed, Lieutenant General Ahmed Gaïd Salah, President of the Republic, Minister of National Defence, Supreme Chief of Armed Forces Abdelmadjid Tebboune has decreed a three day national mourning ceremony and seven days for the Army,” said the same source.

ALGIERS- President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune, elected in the presidential election of December 12th, took the oath of office on Thursday, in an official ceremony at the Palace of Nations, Algiers, in the presence of the nation's highest institutions. 

The ceremony began by a recitation of a few verses of the Noble Qur'an and the reading, by the chairman of the Constitutional Council, Kamel Fenniche, of a Council's statement relating to the final results of the presidential election won by Tebboune with a voter turnout of 58.13%.

 First President of the Supreme Court Abderachid Tabi articulated the oath and President took the oath by repeating it verbatim, with his right hand on the Noble Qur'an.

In the end of the swearing-in, Abderachid Tabi stated: "In m capacity as the first president of the Supreme Court, I attest to the fact that the president of the Republic has taken the oath of office."

In accordance with Article 89 of the Constitution, "the president of the Republic shall take the oath of office before the people, in the presence of the high institutions of the nation, in the week following his election. He shall take office immediately after his swearing-in."
